Honors Award for Incoming Freshmen
For incoming Honors freshmen, up to $3,000, renewable for 4 years. Requires a 3.5 GPA/26 ACT, 2 short essays, example of academic writing.
The Honors Award is up to $3,000 (split fall/spring) renewable for four years. This scholarship can be combined with other EIU academic merit scholarships (but cannot be combined with the Presidential Scholarship).
The Honors award requires a 26 ACT (1230 SAT) and a 3.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) OR top 10% of your high school graduating class.
To retain their awards, all Honors scholarship recipients are required to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.40 (on a 4.0 scale), and to remain in good academic and judicial standing with Eastern Illinois University and the Pine Honors College.
In evaluating applications we consider high school transcripts, extracurricular and volunteer activities, personal essays, and a recommendation from a high school teacher or administrator. We are particularly looking for leadership potential, ambition to make the most of college, and intellectual maturity. All applications are reviewed by the Honors Council (a faculty and student body).
