Sandra and Jack Pine Scholarship

Criteria for selection are as follows:

  1. The recipient must be a full-time student accepted to the Honors College at Eastern Illinois University and must have declared and be taking the courses required for a major in Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics.
  2. An incoming freshman must have (i) a composite ACT score of 30 (or SAT equivalent score of 1980) and either an unweighted high school GPA of 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale) or ranking in the top 90th percentile of the graduating class; or (ii) a composite ACT score of 28 (or SAT equivalent score of 1860) and either an unweighted high school GPA of 3.75 (on a 4.0 scale) or a ranking in the top 95th percentile of the graduating class. Recipients entering their freshman year must submit a letter of recommendation from their high school Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics instructor indicating the applicant’s academic ability, accomplishments, and interest in the study of Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics.
  3. For recipients entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year, the recipient must major in Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics and must maintain a GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
  4. The scholarships shall be merit-based, but financial need shall be considered in the selection of scholarship recipients.
  5. A recipient may be eligible to receive an award in consecutive years as long as the above criteria are met.

Awards will be announced in the Spring and paid in the following Fall and Spring semesters.

Your letter writer should be someone who has recently taught you in your chosen field of physics, chemistry or mathematics (a teacher for incoming freshman students, or an EIU faculty member for current EIU students).
