For Spanish majors with Teacher Certification. Requires 3.0 GPA, 75 credit hours, essay on personal qualities, goal statement.

The following criteria must be met:
- The recipient must have a declared major in Spanish with Teacher Certification.
- The recipient must have completed at least 75 hours of coursework.
- The recipient must have an overall 3.0 GPA as well as a 3.0 GPA in the major.
- The recipient must provide an essay on why you deserve the award and how you exemplify the qualities and attributes of Dr. Luis Clay-Mendez such as positive attitude, outgoing spirit, and willingness to go beyond average expectations.
This award is announced in the Spring and disbursed in the Fall.

C) An annotated list of activities (the name of the activity and an explanation of your role) in which you have participated that promote the study of World Languages and Culture (such as language clubs, volunteer tutoring, French Week, German Table, language honor societies, LASO, etc.).
D) A brief description of your plans for the future to study your language of concentration, your professional goals, and the role world languages has in these goals.
