Glen and Mildred Hesler Memorial Scholarship
For athletes from Mattoon HS, especially former “at-risk” students willing to mentor others. Requires 2.0 GPA, MHS faculty recommendation.
Full description:
The following criteria must be met:
- More than one recipient may be selected.
- The recipient or recipients must be a graduate of Mattoon High School (MHS) who has been accepted as a full-time student at Eastern Illinois University.
- The recipient or recipients must have participated in athletics at MHS and plan to participate in athletics at EIU
- The recipient or recipients must provide a letter of recommendation from an MHS teacher or guidance counselor. Included in the letter should be a statement as to how the recipient(s) has improved theirself while at MHS. Special consideration shall be given to “at- risk” students, i.e. students who were at-risk for dropping out of high school but prevailed.
- The recipient or recipients may receive the award for up to four years provided that: they are committed to giving back to the community by mentoring other “at-risk” students at MHS or other community services shall be required each year.
- They must maintain an overall GPA of 2.0.
This scholarship is announced in the spring and awarded in the fall and spring.
