Geraldina Ortiz-Muniz Spanish Scholarship

For juniors in Spanish. Requires 3.5 GPA overall and in Spanish, letter of recommendation (preferably from Spanish faculty), 4-part essay.

Full description:
The following criteria must be met:

  1. Must be a full-time student majoring in Spanish currently enrolled at Eastern Illinois University. Recipients must be a Junior or Senior. Preference for a Junior recipient who shall retain the award their Senior year provided they continue to meet the criteria for the award.
  2. Must have an overall GPA of at least 3.5 plus a GPA of at least 3.5 in their Spanish major.
  3. The scholarship is to be based upon merit. Applicants with the highest financial need shall receive preference in instances when the selection committee must choose from equally qualified applicants.
  4. At the time of application, the student must submit a letter of recommendation from one or more members of the Department of World Languages and Cultures faculty. The recommendations should be a from a member of the Spanish faculty, if possible.

This award is announced in the Spring and disbursed in the Fall.

    C) An annotated list of activities (the name of the activity and an explanation of your role) in which you have participated that promote the study of World Languages and Culture (such as language clubs, volunteer tutoring, French Week, German Table, language honor societies, LASO, etc.).

    D) A brief description of your plans for the future to study your language of concentration, your professional goals, and the role world languages has in these goals.
