Wesley J. Vala Student Athlete Scholarship

The following criteria must be met:
1. At the time of selection, the recipient(s) shall be a graduating Senior of Sangamon County High School, and be participating in one or more intercollegiate athletic teams who has been accepted to Eastern Illinois University.
2. If there is no suitable graduating Senior of Sangamon County High School, then the recipient(s) may be a Sangamon County High School graduate already attending Eastern Illinois University who meets the other scholarship criteria.
3. If there is no suitable recipient(s) from Sangamon County High school already attending Eastern, then the recipient(s) may be an Eastern student who meets the other scholarship criteria.
4. The recipient(s) must be a “good athlete” and a qualifying student academically.
5. The recipient(s) shall have shown outstanding achievement in high school athletics in his/her senior year.
6. Financial need is a consideration.
7. The recipient(s) may receive the award more than once providing they continue to meet the criteria stated above and is chosen again by the Selection Committee.

This award is announced in the fall and awarded in the fall and spring.
