Rory and Gail Heltsley Steidl Scholarship
The following criteria must be met:
1. The applicants must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student majoring in the Bachelor of General Studies (BGS), Elementary Education, Special Education, Nursing, Family and Consumer Sciences, Sociology (must be enrolled in criminal justice course), Journalism or Kinesiology and Sports Studies and accepted to Eastern Illinois University.
2. The recipient must maintain an overall GPA of at least 3.0.
3. The recipients need to be rotated every other year between Charleston High School (even fiscal years) and Kansas High School (odd fiscal years) graduates. If no one is eligible, it defaults to the other school. If neither school has eligible students, it will default to other high schools in Coles County, followed by schools in surrounding counties.
4. Applicants must submit a 500-word statement with career goals and what the applicant wants to accomplish within their chosen field.
5. Financial need is only a consideration if there is a tie between all other criteria.
6. The recipient(s) may be eligible to apply for the award again provided he/she continues to meet all other criteria.
This award will be announced in the Spring and awarded the following Fall semester.
