L. Joyce Taylor Student Teaching Scholarship
The following criteria must be met:
1. The recipients(s) must be a full-time student at Eastern Illinois University in a major leading to Teacher Certification and must be in good academic standing. In addition, recipients must have completed all requirements to become eligible to student teach and must be approved to student teach within the next 12 months after the award date.
2. Financial need is a consideration. This award has been established to offset the cost of student teaching expenses in order to overcome the financial barriers that exist on the way to becoming an excellent educator.
3. The application process for this scholarship shall include the submission by each applicant of a one-page essay outlining future educational and career plans. This essay should address how the applicant has overcome adversity, obstacles, or barriers in his/her life, and how he/she has experienced the impact of teaching in underserved populations prior to the application for this scholarship.
4. Within the essay in the above criteria, the recipient shall demonstrate a commitment to teaching underserved populations.
Students may not be eligible to receive the award a second time.
This award will be open for applications in both the fall and spring semester to disburse the following semester of which it was announced.
