Richard L. and Ellen A. Keiter Undergrad Research Fellowship

The following criteria must be met:
1. At the time of selection, the recipient must be a full-time student at Eastern Illinois University;
2. At the time of selection The recipient must be a declared major in Chemistry;
3. At the time of selection The recipient must have completed at least three semesters in a Chemistry program of study, including at least three college-level chemistry courses;
4. At the time of selection The recipient may be a sophomore, junior, or senior student;
5. At the time of selection The recipient must have at least one semester of undergraduate study remaining at the University;
6. At the time of selection The recipient must have achieved an overall GPA of at least 2.75 (A=4.00) and a GPA of at least 3.00 in chemistry courses;
7. At the time of selection The recipient must have completed, or be completing, at least one semester of research with the Chemistry faculty mentor who would supervise the summer project;
8. At the time of selection The recipient must be undertaking research that shows promise of leading to publication as shown, in part, by a brief written description of the proposed research;
9. At the time of selection the recipient shall show potential for undertaking independent research as demonstrated, in part, by his/her most recent research report.

Due to the intensive nature of this experience, the recipient should not be enrolled in summer courses during the projected project timeline.
Approval of the research mentor should be obtained before applying.

  1. Please briefly describe your chemistry research experience and accomplishments, including dates / durations, in 250 words or less.
  2. Please attach your proposed research project that includes an anticipated timeline for completion of each part of the project. The text should be 750 words or less, though reaction schemes, diagrams, etc can be added.
  3. Please attach your most recent CHM 4400 or 4555 Undergraduate Research Report. If you are currently in your first semester of research, a summary of your progress to date is sufficient.
