Academic Excellence Communication Studies Talented Student Award

This is a tuition waiver to provide financial assistance to students with academic talent or special status; fees are not waived.
The following criteria must be met:
Undergraduate Students:
1. The recipient(s) must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00, or 3.00 GPA in high school, admitted to a major in the Division of Communication Studies.
2. The recipient(s) shall be selected by a faculty panel to receive a scholarship or other award.
Recipient(s) will submit an essay demonstrating proficiency of some unique talent or skill that benefits the department or describes participation in a University or department priority activity. Such an essay may address undergraduate research participation beyond the classroom, including honors or sponsored research projects; unique departmental contributions through service or engagement; demonstrable leadership in a registered student organization; or contributions within the EIU community.
3. The recipient(s) must provide:
- Three letters of reference from individuals outside of the Division of Communication Studies who can attest to a student’s academic abilities.
OR
- One letter of recommendation authored by a departmental faculty member.
According to EIU’s Internal Governing Policy #73, this award is a “Tuition waiver to provide financial assistance to students with academic talent or special status; fees are not waived.” Therefore, students who already have a full tuition waiver or have no room in their financial aid package for tuition assistance are not eligible to receive this award.

Applications will be accepted in the Fall. Awards will be announced in the Fall and paid the following Spring semester.
