Denver Foltz Educational Leadership Scholarship

Denver Allen Foltz was born February 28, 1935, in Jasper County, IL, to Roger and Bernice (Isley) Foltz. Denver graduated from Newton Community High School in Newton, IL, in 1953 and went on to attend college at Eastern Illinois State College (which soon after became Eastern Illinois University), where he received his Bachelor of Science in Education Degree with a major in Elementary Education and later a Master of Science in Education Degree with a major in School Administration. He began teaching in 1953 at Newton Consolidated Grade School in Newton, IL. In 1964 he taught at Perry School in Belvidere, IL. Denver was then the principal of Kishwaukee School from 1967 to 1992. He also attended Northern Illinois University in 1978, receiving a Certificate of Advanced Study with a major in Curriculum and Supervision. Active in his community, Denver was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Belvidere, IL, the Belvidere-Boone County Retired Teachers Association, and Klehm Arboretum in Rockford, IL. He passed away at age 83 on March 4, 2018, in Rockford, IL. Denver was a devoted educator, and through his generosity, the College of Education has established this endowed scholarship to benefit future educators pursuing their degrees at Eastern Illinois University.

Established to be awarded to full-time students at Eastern Illinois University majoring in a degree program offered through the Department of Educational Leadership.
