Dean James E. Johnson Scholarship

Established to memorialize the life and work of Dean James E. Johnson who served at Eastern Illinois University (EIU), 1970-1991. His many friends at EIU and Charleston-Mattoon knew him affectionately as “the Dean.” In many significant ways, Jim touched all our lives at the university and in the surrounding area; and he accomplished that in a way that made him a fitting icon for the university and the region. He had the personality and the charm that helped unite people of various background and interests. Over two decades, large number of students, faculty and staff, and people in the area, were recipients of his gracious deeds, or were encourage or uplifted by his ever-present smile and warm humanity.
