Cecil Paul and Marjorie Wilson Davis Scholarship

Established through the Marjorie W. Davis Trust. This scholarship memorializes the late Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Paul and Marjorie W. Davis,’51. Mr. Davis enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June 1944. He was a plank member of the destroyer Herbert J. Thomas DD 833, a radar picket ship. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1950 with a bachelor of science in agriculture. He worked at Smith-Douglas Fertilizer in Streator for 13 years. He began farming in 1962 and retired in 1991. Mrs. Davis taught English for 24 years, mainly at Stephen Decatur High School and at Champaign Central High School in Urbana. She held professional memberships in Delta Kappa gamma, Honorary for Women Educators, KAUW, and National Council of Teachers of English, for which she was state secretary for five years. She was a co-teacher leader for summer school travel studies to Europe for high school students. She was a member of Gibson City United Methodist Church, UMW, a former member of the Dix Unit of Homemakers Extension, and the Gutherie club. This scholarship is to be awarded to an EIU student with average or above-average academic achievement majoring in English, Journalism, or Speech Communication major.
